Cinema Sunday

Cinema Sunday is back! I know it has been a long time since my last Cinema Sunday post. I missed the holiday movie season and all of Oscar season (don't worry, we did see all of the Oscar nominated films as usual, I just didn't make time to post reviews about them...) but I am ready to get back to writing posts about

Aaron and I went to see Oz the Great and Powerful yesterday afternoon at our local theater. I had originally wanted to go see it in IMAX at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh, but the tickets are somewhat pricy and the show times just didn't work for our schedule.

Overall I thought the movie was good. It was shot for 3D, but we saw the 2D screening and it didn't have a gimmicky 3D feel to it. I love the back story of Oz that came from the musical Wicked, so I was looking forward to seeing a different take on how the characters in The Wizard of Oz came to be, but after seeing this movie, I really want to see a Wicked movie even more that I did before.

The story of Oz the Great and Powerful focuses on a time in Oz before Dorothy made her way there. Oscar “Oz” Diggs (James Franco) travels to via hot air balloon Oz by mistake while trying to escape a spited strongman. He lands in Oz where he meets several witches and a flying monkey, is told of a prophesy and goes on a journey to help goodness prevail over wickedness. There are many callbacks to The Wizard of Oz in this movie from a cinematic switch over to finding a team along the yellow brick road and even an explanation of how Oz came to be a floating head when Dorothy meets him.

In related movie news, our local Blockbuster store is finally going out of business! Aaron spotted the huge liquidation sale posters that have replaced all of the storefront movie posters when we went to get dinner Friday night. Aaron went by the store yesterday morning to check out the discounted selection, but he only found 2 movies for our collection. We are waiting for the deeper discounts and markdowns that will be posted soon.

He did score a stack of empty Blu-ray cases Since we mostly buy discounted Blu-rays, they often come in DVD cases, which are larger and look funny on the shelf. We swapped out the mismatching cases for the Blu-ray cases and now everything matches and lines up nicely. This is how you can tell that we are passionate about our collection! If you're a movie collector near the Glenwood area, don't miss out!

Have you seen any movies recently?

Wedding Wednesday: Fairy Tale Bridal

Love Changes Everything... As Ariel soon finds out when she places her heart above all else. Willing to cross oceans for true love, she discovers the world beyond the sea is all that she dreamed it would be.

So, today's Wedding Wednesday post is a little out of order since I am no where close to picking our a dress yet, but as I have started to search the Internet for inspiration, I came across the Disney Fairy Tale Wedding collection and thought that it would be fitting to feature my favorite Disney princess, the Ariel collection. The collection includes the bridal gown, bridal veil, a hoochie brides maid dress and a flower girl dress.

I am not a fan of 'mermaid' style dresses but don't hate the Ariel dress. The Cinderella dress from the first collection is actually my favorite dress, but I am probably going to look for something a little smaller and way less expensive.

I was excited to see this collection when it first came out last year. I like the "Your fairy tale awaits" and "Dreams do come true" concept that fits Disney so well with this collection, but at the same time, Disney might be setting hopes too high. A wedding and a marriage isn't a fairy tale, it's real life! I think that I will feel like a princess, just like Ariel on our wedding day.
