Boogeyman 2012

Halloween isn't officially until this Wednesday, but we celebrated All Hallows Eve this past weekend with our friend Dana who came to visit and stay with us until Hurricane Sandy started to threaten the East Coast and she had to fly out early. We went on the Boogeyman Bar Crawl with 400 other I dressed up as Hispter Ariel, "I Wanna Be Where The PBR" sign and all. Aaron went as a skeleton, Dana went as Katniss Everdeen, Brittany was a pink loofa and Andrew went as soap.

We started the pub crawl at Mirage then went to the Downtown Sports Bar and Grill, the 606 Lounge, Still Life, and finally back to Mirage until we couldn't dance anymore. The night included dancing, hearing "Party Rock" 5 times at every bar, many glow-in-the-dark accessories, Halloween themed drinks, a club wide sing-a-long to Bohemian Rhapsody, and a Foxy Lady dance presentation by the guy dressed up as Garth from Waynes World

Happy Halloween!

My Weekend, In Snapshots

My grandparents came to visit us this weekend! We have been planning for them to come visit and experience Raleigh since August. On Friday evening we had dinner at Relish and then went to Shabbat Services together.

Later that evening after we said goodnight to my grandparents, Aaron and I put together quick Halloween costumes and drove over to the NCSU side of town for our friends' costume party, which was creatively titled: "The Very Scary Avent Ferry Spook-tober Boo-nanza!" Just to give you a quick picture of the party, there were endless blacklights, drunken gummy worms, party games, and BSB dance parties!

On Saturday morning Aaron and I slept in for a bit and then went our to get our weekly Pumpkin Spice Lattes. It's such a nice Autumn tradition.

When my grandparents came over around 11 we took them down to see the lake and then we went on a walk along the bike path. We saw geese, ducks, dogs, squirrels, and this blue heron.

After our nature walk we had lunch at the apartment and then drove down Millbrook to visit our wedding venue. The space was all set for a wedding so we were able to get an idea of the table placement and floor plan.

Our next stop was the NC Art museum. We were able to see a few of the exhibits that we did not get to during our last visit. The outdoor sculpture garden was beautiful and the the last water lilies of the season were in full bloom.

Taking in word art at in the West Building.

After we finished our tour of the art museum we went back to our apartment for a little rest before dinner. Skwisgaar decided that he needed to get in some cuddle time with my grandpa. A package arrived from HSN (Thanks Robbie!) with a set of flameless candles so we decided to add them to our Halloween decor collection above the fireplace. They came with a remote control with a dimmer and timer!

On Sunday morning we went downtown to have lunch and go to the Museum of Natural Sciences. We took a walk through the park by Moore Square and then had lunch at the Raleigh Times.

Quiche was amazing and that side salad came with Bacon Honey Mustard dressing. What the whatttt. Delicious.

Exploring space at the Museum of Natural Sciences.

After the museum we went back to our apartment to video chat with Aaron's family until it was time for my grandparents to head back to their hotel to get ready for their trip home. We had a wonderful weekend showing them around the city that we love, catching up, and sharing stories of fond memories.

Hope you had a good weekend!

So This Happened...

My boss brought her cat lead in to work the other day and let me borrow it. She said that her cat would just pancake out on the floor whenever she put it on, but I might have better luck using it with Skwisgaar because he is still so young.

It took some time (and a lot of hand biting) for me to get it on him, mostly because I couldn't figure out which strap should connect to which clip, but eventually we got it all outfitted! I took Skwis outside and he seemed okay, but he didn't want to walk. He just wanted to eat grass. I am pretty sure he was going through sensory overload, but he didn't freak out so it's a start!

I think he liked his time outside in the Autumn air. After having an outdoor cat for so many years, I worry that Skwis isn't getting enough fresh air (whoa, that sounds like a mom...) We will try again soon!

Wedding Wednesday: A Bridal Party Surprise

On the day after Aaron and I got engaged we were driving back to Raleigh from our weekend in Maryland and we had some time to start thinking about our wedding. We talked about some of the basic details that we both wanted such as the location, reception music, and who we wanted in our wedding party.

It didn't take us long to come up with our list of 8 bridesmaids and groomsmen. We talked about when and how we should ask them to be in our wedding party.

I was inspired by the surprise package trend that has popped up in the past two years so I decided to send out surprise packages to ask my friends to be my brides maids. I wanted to fill each box with useful and meaningful items that would represent me and our wedding with an emphasis on handmade items from Etsy.

My bridesmaids are... Dana (MOH), Lissan, Kristin, and Iris! I wanted to show my love for these wonderful ladies

 Each surprise package included:
  • A note card with an Instax photo and a personal "Will you be my brides maid?" message for each lady
  • Bridal Party Buttons from One Plus One Design
  • 2 Mini felted heart shaped soaps from SoFino in mint green and navy blue (our wedding colors!) in a burlap zip pouch from Target
  • White, navy blue, and green felted wool acorns from Magpie Jane to represent Raleigh (the city of oaks)
  • A bag of candy corn and pumpkins for something sweet that represents getting married in October
  • A cute initial stamp for each
I am so happy that they all said yes! I love them all so much! I can't wait to celebrate together and share so many happy memories over the next year! <3

Better Than the Best Ever

Happy Homecoming!

We had an AMAZING trip to Athens this weekend for OU Homecoming 2012!

We drove up on Friday morning with our friends Cassie and Bryan who live in Raleigh. We went to Shabbat services at Hillel, watched the O's game and had jello shots at Lucky's, ordered dinner at Pita Pit, reunited with friends at our favorite bars uptown, walked around College Green, walked through Baker Student Center, went to Brennen's for breakfast (twice!), watched the homecoming parade, sang the OU fight song, danced along with the Marching 110, reunited with even more alumni friends at Red Brick, had lunch at the new Jackie O's, went to the football game to cheer our Bobcats to victory (7 and Oh!) stocked up on Bobcat gear, took a trip to Hocking St., had DP Dough for dinner and went to Sonic for Limeaids (Sonice Ice!) and made it back to Raleigh in time to recharge on Sunday night! Whew! It was a whirlwind weekend but it was 100% worth it to spend some time in Athens with our friends and share our love for Ohio University.

We can't wait until next year! GO OHIO!

Friday Favorites

This beautiful Heart Lantern by This Is Pretty. Perfect for fall home decor or for a rustic barn wedding! I wish they were not all sold out :(

Downton Abbey Season 3! I just caught up on episodes 1 through 4. I know the US release isn't until January, so I won't say very much, but it is so good!

Even though it's not real vintage I really like this lovely new school Jadite Tumblr from Terrain. There are so many beautiful things in this shop. I also especially like their blue Agate Earth Coasters.

This is how I want to feel on October 31st.

This handsome fella

We are packing up the car and off on a roadtrip with fellow Bobcat alumni for OU Homecoming in Athens! It's going to be Better than the Best Ever! Have a good weekend!

Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Recipe

This Harvest Recipe was inspired by my frigid apartment and spontaneous creativity!

Drop 1 Pumpkin Spice Hershey's Kiss into a container with 1 packet of instant hot cocoa mix (with mini marshmallows!) and stir in 6 oz. of almost boiling water. Pour into your favorite mug and sip while bundled up in your fiance's warmest sweats (last part optional, but really, it's the most comfortable.)

Enjoy!
