Happy Birthday Skwisgaar!

We are back from our weekend Couples Wedding Shower/Passover/Spring Break trip to Ohio! We were busy the entire time with visiting family, friends, our favorite spots in Akron, and celebrating! Even though I wasn't looking forward to the 18 hour round trip drive, I remembered how much I love road tripping with Aaron. I will post a few pictures from the shower next week for Wedding Wednesday.

More importantly - today is Skwisgaar's birthday!!! He has made it to the first year mark in his life. We are so happy that he is part of our family! For his birthday we bought him a new feather toy and a bag of cat treats.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of Skwis over the last year.

Thanksgiving Break

Is it seriously Monday already?

My Thanksgiving 4 day weekend in Raleigh was so relaxing! We enjoyed out Honey Baked Ham turkey and fixin's on Thursday and the leftover carried us through the entire weekend.

On Thursday we decided to go see an early afternoon screening of Argo at our local theater. There were maybe 10 cars there and our showing was sparsely populated (that's how we like it!). The movie was good, but it wasn't really the feel good holiday movie that I wanted to see.

On Friday morning Aaron went into work so I got up and walked around Lake Lynn. It was a brisk 30 degrees outside, but my walk/jog kept me warm. I saw mallard ducks, white ducks, Canadian geese, and a blue heron on my way. They like hanging out in the shallows by the boardwalks on the North side of the lake.

On Saturday morning we ventured out to Best Buy and Costco. At Best Buy we found the sound bar that Aaron has been eyeing for months marked down at half price. We set it up right away when we got home and it sounds amazing! I spent the rest of the day reading Mindy Kaling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

On Sunday morning we slept late then went to brunch at Brigs on Creedmoor. They have amazing eggs Benedict plates. The rest of the day was for laundry, reading, and watching movies that we had saved to the DVR from the weekend.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend!

So This Happened...

My boss brought her cat lead in to work the other day and let me borrow it. She said that her cat would just pancake out on the floor whenever she put it on, but I might have better luck using it with Skwisgaar because he is still so young.

It took some time (and a lot of hand biting) for me to get it on him, mostly because I couldn't figure out which strap should connect to which clip, but eventually we got it all outfitted! I took Skwis outside and he seemed okay, but he didn't want to walk. He just wanted to eat grass. I am pretty sure he was going through sensory overload, but he didn't freak out so it's a start!

I think he liked his time outside in the Autumn air. After having an outdoor cat for so many years, I worry that Skwis isn't getting enough fresh air (whoa, that sounds like a mom...) We will try again soon!

As Tall as a Tree

It might not me Caturday, but I think we are all in need of some kitten cuteness this morning. Skwisgaar is growing very quickly! Since we adopted him he has settled into our little home and routine. He is less focused on jumping up on everything or getting behind every piece of furniture we have, partly because he is getting too big to fit. He still loves to play with all of the kitten toys in his basket and giving kisses and snuggles.

Skwisgaar and I hope you have a good day!

My Weekend, in Snapshots

To see my weekend, on instagram (follow me @eeelishalynn)

Left to right, top to bottom:

1) On Friday night Aaron and I went to see The Dark Knight Rises, but first we stopped at Target to pick up kitten toys and candy (a box of candy at the movie theater is $6, but it was only $1 at Target!).

2) Waiting for the movie to begin. So excited!

3) Game face bro! In honor of the 2012 London games, Aaron and I competed in the 2012 Raleigh Beer Olympics! We were on team Scotland and we competed against Greece, Vatican City and Cuba.

4) We played a 4 round Mario Kart championship!

5) Our new favorite beer pong game: baseball. Even though Greece won our match, Scotland put up a good fight.

6) Our teammate, Sophie, representing Scotland!

7) After our 8 hour Olympic battle and a 4am apartment shaking thunderstorm, we spent all day Sunday relaxing and playing with Skiwsgaar.

8) On Sunday night we met our friends Adina, David, Nadiv, Kelly from the American Hebrew Academy for dinner at Piola in Chapel Hill. It was so nice to see them and the pizza was delicious! On the way home Aaron and I stopped at Citizen Yogurt to try out this classic treat.

Meet Skwisgaar

This is our new kitten, Skwisgaar. We adopted him on Sunday from the Wake County SPCA. He is 3 months old and was born in Raleigh. He is very affectionate. He has so much love and is not skimpy with the cuddles. His favorite toy in a fluffy brown mouse. He enjoyed climbing on everything in our apartment, playing fetch with his mouse, chewing on our couch and having his belly scratched.

Our Skwisgaar is named after Skwisgaar Skwigelf who is a member of the fictional band Metal band Dethklok from the animated series Metalocalypse. Skwigelf is said to be "taller than a tree" and he is Dethklok's renowned lead guitarist. He has been coined "The Fastest Guitarist Alive" as he exhibits a specialty in speed scales. As such, we lick to call our Skwisgaar, the little rocker.

We are so happy that he is part of our family!
