Weekend Recap

Saturday morning brought a lot of rain in Raleigh, but we didn't let that keep us inside. We drove a few minutes East to check out the Midtown Farmers Market at North Hills for the first time. Technically, it's the closest farmers market to our apartment, but it has taken us over a year to get over there! We were well rewarded with a tote bag of local produce and other goodies, and a petting zoo with a newborn baby lamb who was having the best time head butting bunnies!
We found a spot in the North Hills plaza with an awning for shelter from the rain while we enjoyed breakfast. I had a lemon blueberry scone and Aaron had a maple cinnamon roll. We brought home a basket of WNorth Carolina peaches to fill my beautiful jadeite bowl!

While we were at the farmers market we also picked up a box of fresh, handmade Cheddar & Onion Pierogi from Melina's. All of her pastas are handmade at her shop in Durham. We had never heard of Melina's Pasta before, but when I saw the booth, I couldn't resist!

Learning how to make fresh pasta is on my to-do list for the future, but cooking and eating fresh pasta is on my to-do-immediately list! I paired the pierogi with a cherry tomato (fresh from the market), basil and bocconcini salad. Yum!
On Sunday morning I went for a walk around Lake Lynn and then got back in the gym. It felt so good! After lunch Aaron and I ran a few errands and then we I went to see Monsters University (see previous post).
We ended our weekend with dinner at O'Malley's Pub and ice cream at Fresh with friends. I enjoyed a waffle cone with a scoop of mango sorbet topped with a scoop of lemon chiffon. It was the perfect combination for a warm summer night!

I hope you had a good weekend!

Weekend Recap

Please note, in the top photo my face is expressing how much fun I was having and how delicious Cathy's homemade chocolate chip cookies (seen in second photo) tasted!

Good Morning! We had a full weekend of beautiful weather. After work on Friday afternoon Aaron and I walked around Lake Lynn and then picked up Mexican for dinner. Later that evening we went over to our friends Cassie and Cathy's house for game night!

We learned how to play a role-playing card game called Munchkin. The tag line for this game is, "Kill the monsters, steal the treasure, stab your buddy." It seemed to be very confusing in the beginning, but after a few rounds we got the hang of it and had a great time!

On Saturday we went to see Oz the Great and Powerful and stopped by Target to pick up a box of liter for the feline member of our family. I had a chance to FaceTime with Dana, who was still in New Orleans on her Spring break trip at NOLA. Aaron went to a brewery opening and a Gaslight Anthem concert with our friend Carmen, so I went on a Menchie's run and then Skwis and I snuggled in for a Sex and the City marathon.

On Sunday morning while Aaron slept in, I went to the NC Farmers Market to meet a few friends. I enjoyed a tall cup of freshly squeezed orange, lemon, and lime juice while we walked around the stalls. It was craft show weekend, so many of the produce stands were moved out and temporarily replaced by artisans who were selling jewelery, wood shop items, pottery, garden decorations, and beautiful hanging terrariums. I left with a bag of apples for our lunches this week.

After running errands and cleaning up around here, we decided that the weather was perfect to spend some time out on our balcony. We tag teamed Skwis into his leash so he could sit outside with us without me having to worry that he would jump though the railing.

We concluded our weekend with a quick trip to Crabtree Valley Mall to pick up our favorite Chinese food for dinner that we enjoyed while we watched a few shows that we had on the DVR. With daylight savings time and the weather inching towards Spring, it really felt like a transitional weekend. I am looking forward to what is to come!

I hope you had a good weekend too! Did you get to go outside?

My Weekend, In Snapshots

to see my weekend, on instagram (follow me @eeelishalynn)

Left to right, top to bottom:

1) Friday night kitten cuddle time!

2) I had a craving for burgers so we decided to try Hardee's for the first time. The thickburger was maybe the best fast food burger I have ever had, aside from Cook Out. The onion rings were meh.

3) Saturday morning was rainy but we went to the farmers market in search of autumn/pumpkiny goodness. We found it! We bought a tiny white pumpkin for our mantle shelf, tripple apple cider from a local orchard, end-of-the-season corn, a bag of mixed apples, and cookies from The Cookie People.

4) Giant pumpkins and Indian corn. There were so many Halloween decorations!

5) A pile of apple gourds. I had never seen these before, not sure what you can do with them...

6) I don't know why, but I took a photo of this poster and didn't pick one up...I should have! Looper was amazing!

7) Playing (and winning) Beer Pong Baseball at our friend Cassie's housewarming party on Saturday night. We got together with our Bobcat alumni and made big plans to rent a van for our road trip to Athens in 2 weeks for Homecoming!!!

8) Sunday was all about relaxing for us. We crossed a big off of our wedding to-do list (!!!) and caught up on TV shows and movies. After lunch Aaron went to the office to pick up a package that we got in the mail yesterday. I was my September Hammock Pack! We tested on one of the items, a mud mask. This was a new experience for A! I think he looks like Batman. I will write a post on the September box this week.

Since we moved to Raleigh our life has felt like it has been flying by at 100mph. I can't believe Autumn is here and that it's October already! I haven't even had time to catch up with blogging at all this past week.

When I wasn't working during the end of our time in Miami, I had a lot of free time to spend at home. Our life in Raleigh is completely different that it was in Miami, in the best way. We are always working, attending events, parties, and meeting new people.

Switching from having almost every day free of obligation to going, going, going non-stop has left me trying to figure out a way to fit everything in. That's why Sunday was a pumpkin spice latte, craft time, kitten cuddles, stay home day for me. As much as I love every aspect of our life now, it's nice to make time to stay home all day and relax.

I hope you had a good weekend!

My Weekend, in Snapshots

To see my weekend, on instagram (follow me @eeelishalynn)

Left to right, top to bottom:

1) Fried Green Tomatoes at The Pit on Friday night! Aaron's parents drove down from Akron, OH to visit us this weekend so we had to show them Southern hospitality. What is a better way to do so than enjoying BBQ in Downtown Raleigh? It was delicious!

2) On Saturday morning we woke up early and went to the Downtown Durham Farmers Market. We bought cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, peaches, and gnarly garlic.

3) Local beer from Fullstream Brewery. After we tried their Carver Sweet Potato Ale at the Remedy Diner on the 4th of July, we knew that we had to try more. We bought a growler of the Summer Basil Ale and we can't wait to try it!

4) Aaron's parents admiring the aquarium at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. We decided to visit the museum on Saturday afternoon. There are two buildings and admission is free every day. There is so much to see there!

5) The terror of the South! After the museum we drove to Cary to see Beasts of the Southern Wild and then went across the street form dinner at Tom Yum Tai. It was my first time trying Tai food!

6) Celebrating Brittany's 25th birthday on Saturday night!

7) Judaica gallery at the NC Museum of Art on Sunday morning. The art museum is beautiful! Like the Museum of Natural Sciences there are multiple buildings, beautiful galleries,  and it is free!

8) Yum! A brie, raspberry preserves and ham grilled cheese at Relish on Sunday evening. After dinner we said farewell to Aaron's parents and came home to cuddle with Skwisgaar and watch the amazing closing ceremonies to the 2012 London Olympics. I am sad that the Olympics is over, but there is so much to look forward to in the next 4 years until the 2016 games in Rio!

What did you do this weekend?

Marketing

I keep entering our old zip code for Hallandale. Oops. 33009 is just easier to remember.

Despite the forecast for 104ยบ weather, Aaron and I spent the morning at the Raleigh Flea Market and the State Farmers Market! It was hot, but we had a good time. At the flea market there was a vendor selling cast iron pieces and they were all piled up in trailers. I will definitely be going back to pick up some new accent pieces once we are ready to decorate the apartment.

At the farmers market we picked up a watermelon, yellow squash, peaches, a few ears of Silver Queen corn, zucchini, and the most delicious strawberries! Later, when we went to Fresh Market I picked up a wedge of brie to eat with the strawberries.  Yum!
